Dive Into this Remastered Legendary Journey: A Free Demo for DQ7 Reimagined Lands Soon.

Fans eagerly awaiting the release of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined can get a head start much longer. An exciting trial experience will become available on January 7th, offering a generous glimpse into the game's opening hours. Importantly, any progress earned within this demo will be able to be imported directly into the main game upon its eventual launch.

Beyond Just a Simple Re-release: A Thorough Overhaul

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined constitutes a from-scratch re-envisioning of the iconic year 2000 RPG, originally released as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a significant step away from other Dragon Quest remakes, such as the previously released HD-2D versions, this version embraces a charming 3D aesthetic. Environments appear to look like detailed model sets, with protagonists having a delightful chibi-esque design.

"Even with the 3DS port, the narrative was still exceptionally lengthy. So we came to a determination that we wanted to tighten the story, [and] make this experience for contemporary audiences."

Significant Mechanical Changes & Updates

Square Enix have implemented numerous modernizations to streamline the classic experience. This encompasses:

  • Expedited Overworld Battles: Inspired by contemporary RPGs, weaker enemies can now be defeated instantly on the overworld map eliminating the need for entering a separate turn-based combat sequence.
  • Variable Combat Pace: Players can speed up combat animations to quickly power through easier encounters.
  • Expanded Vocation System: One brand new vocation has been created for this reimagining. Furthermore, characters gain the ability to master a second vocation, greatly expanding customization depth.

Such refinements seek to mitigate one of the original title's common criticisms: its immense length. That original main quest could easily take over 100 hours to finish. This reimagined edition was specifically structured to refine flow and cut down on any repetition.
